Following breakfast, we'll ascend to the Talamanca Highlands. Among the hummingbird species awaiting us are the Fiery-throated Hummingbird, Lesser Violetear, Talamanca Hummingbird, Volcano Hummingbird, and White-throated Mountain-gem.

Our main aim will be to find the Resplendent Quetzal this afternoon, an avian gem considered the most sought-after inhabitant of Costa Rica. We will dedicate approximately three hours to photographing this spectacular species. During this time of year, we also have an excellent opportunity to search for breeding behavior, including territorial interactions and, with a little patience and luck, dramatic flight photographs as Quetzals move between feeding and nesting areas. While these behaviors can never be guaranteed, this season offers some of the best opportunities to witness and photograph these remarkable moments.

This morning we return to the cloud forest for another dedicated Resplendent Quetzal photography session. We will spend approximately three hours photographing this spectacular species, focusing on its natural behavior and hoping to capture dramatic flight images as Quetzals move between feeding and nesting areas.

Between our two Quetzal sessions, we'll spend time photographing hummingbirds and other cloud forest specialties before returning to the Quetzal location for another three-hour afternoon session. While these behaviors can never be guaranteed, this is one of the best times of year to witness them.

After our morning photography session, we'll descend from the Talamanca Highlands toward the Caribbean lowlands. Along the way, we'll stop at a local restaurant with excellent bird feeders, where possibilities include Red-headed Barbet, Prong-billed Barbet, Violet Sabrewing, Coppery-headed Emerald, Common Chlorospingus, Crimson-collared Tanager, and many other colorful cloud forest species.

After enjoying this productive stop, we'll continue our journey to Sarapiquí, where we'll settle into our lodge and prepare for the exciting days ahead.

We will go on a 40-minute journey to a special location where birds such as Gray-cowled Woodrail, Chestnut-headed Oropendola, Orange-chinned Parakeet, Golden-hooded Tanager, Red-legged and Green Honeycreeper, Green-breasted Mango, Rufous-tailed Hummingbird, and with some luck, the American Pygmy Kingfisher, are possible to photograph.

There is also an optional walk (weather permitting) through the forest, offering the full tropical rainforest experience. Here, you'll have a good chance of finding Spectacled Owl, Crested Owl, trogons, and the adorable Honduran White Bat.

To finish the day, we'll head out for a macro photography session in search of some of the rainforest's most fascinating smaller creatures. Depending on recent sightings and what our guide has located, we may have the opportunity to photograph subjects such as the iconic Red-eyed Tree Frog, Eyelash Pit Viper, Strawberry Poison Dart Frog, as well as a variety of colorful insects.

After breakfast, we'll depart for Boca Tapada, home to some of Costa Rica's finest bird photography opportunities. On our way to the lodge, we may make a special stop to search for the spectacular Red-capped Manakin. Depending on the activity at the time of our visit, we hope to spend a photography session observing males performing their remarkable courtship displays. While this behavior can never be guaranteed, this is one of the best times of year to look for this unforgettable spectacle.

After our session, we'll continue to our lodge and spend the afternoon enjoying the excellent bird activity at the feeders.

Depending on current bird activity, we'll begin the morning searching for one of the rainforest's most sought-after species—the magnificent Royal Flycatcher. During this season, we hope to observe its spectacular display, when it raises its extraordinary fan-shaped crest. Although this behavior can never be guaranteed, this is one of the best times of year to search for it.

Later in the morning, we'll enjoy an exciting photography session with the impressive King Vulture from a specially designed hide, allowing outstanding close-up opportunities with these remarkable birds.

After lunch, we'll participate in our Multi-Flash Hummingbird Photography Workshop, learning specialized techniques for creating tack-sharp images of hummingbirds in flight while freezing the motion of their wings.

Depending on bird activity and weather conditions, we'll begin the day with a boat ride in search of the elegant Sunbittern. As we explore the river, we'll also have opportunities to photograph other species that inhabit this beautiful ecosystem, including kingfishers, herons, egrets, and a variety of other birds and wildlife.

While sightings and behaviors can never be guaranteed, this peaceful boat excursion provides a wonderful ending to our photographic adventure.

After our morning on the river, we'll begin our journey back to San José, where we'll spend our final night together.

After breakfast, you'll be transferred to Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) for your international flight back home.
